Here's a great video to watch Christmas morning with your family.

Here are some questions to ask your family after watching

the video:

1. What was important about the new star in the sky?

(Parents help- maybe you can point out that Jesus' birth was so important that the God made a spotlight for Him. Also, Jesus is the Light of the world and He brought hope to the dark and sinful world.)

2. Should we be like Jesus' daddy and be so proud of Jesus that we want everyone to know about him?

3. Do you tell others about Jesus?

4. Who can you tell about Jesus this year?

OUTSIDE OURSELVES

Christmas 2011 Serving Ideas

Write a letter to someone you haven't talked to in a while – affirm how important they are to you; how much you love them.

Be an “angel of the night” - go shovel someone's driveway who can't take care of it themselves (take your kids along).

Give your good stuff to Goodwill (with the tags still on them).

Invite someone over to share your Christmas meal.

Encourage someone who helps others – who has a thankless job.

When you go to the mall to shop, hang around an extra 10 minutes (you can set your watch) and look for someone who could use help – carrying bags, loading bags in the trunk.

Leave an enormous tip when you go out to eat, especially if your server seems tired or grumpy.

Comfort someone who is grieving this Christmas – a card, a plant, a visit.

Visit an elderly home – encourage the forgotten.

Get to know a new neighbor – or an old one you have been avoiding.

Pay for the coffee (or toll) of the person behind you in line.

Don't rationalize away your desire to give to a homeless person asking for money. If they use it for something unhealthy, that's on them not you. Or, offer to buy them a hot meal.

Volunteer at a homeless shelter AFTER Christmas.

Give till it hurts – stretch yourself.

Find a country in need outside the US. Commit to learning and praying about this country in the coming year, in addition to sending financial assistance through Samaritans Purse or another relief organization.

Invite someone to church.

Sponsor a child through Compassion or World Vision.

Set up a savings account specifically for the purpose of giving. Do special projects to raise money for the savings account every month. Pray about where to give the money next Christmas.

Brainstorm people to pray for each day of Advent.

Offer a couple with young children a much-needed night out.

Brown bag your lunch and give the money away.

Find a family in need and give them a Christmas they will never forget. (Go in with a small group or a few other families.)

Pay for the meal for another family in the restaurant where you are eating.

Give an elderly person a ride to do shopping, errands, or just to look at Christmas lights.

Cultivate an attitude of gratitude – in addition to your “I want” list, print out a calendar and write down something each day that you are thankful for.

Keep your giving secret.

Read a book to your children/family.

Consider foster care or adoption.

-Many of these ideas come from the great little book 101 Simple and Thoughtful Ways to Give This Christmas Away by Matthew West

New Groups launch Oct 2

It's possible to attend CrossWalk on Sundays, leave, and never really build relationships in our church family. If you desire to get to know others or study the Bible deeper than Sundays, you'll benefit from plugging into a small group. Doin' life together happens better in smaller groups where we can get connected to each other, meet each others' needs and become more like Christ. This fall we will offer 6 session & 9 session groups.

Ideas for Sabbath

“Stopping weekly creates space to refuel.”

Enlarge your view of God

Get a good devotional you read only on your Sabbath

Go to the zoo and marvel at God's creativity

Spend extra time with God, reading the Bible or praying

Meditate on or memorize a Bible verse

Sit still and mull over how awesome God is

Listen attentively to worship music

Reflect on your life

Journal about what God is teaching you

Read that book you've been wanting to read for a long time

Create or revisit your life goals

Do a jigsaw puzzle while you think about life

Exercise your body

Walk the dog

Go for a bike ride

Go for a hike and fill your senses with God's creation

Have a water gun fight

Take a nap

Invest in your Relationships

Call someone you haven't talked to in a while

Fly a kite

Draw pictures with sidewalk chalk

Play Capture the Flag

Run through the sprinkler

Stargaze

Find animals in the clouds

Go camping – get away from your routine and immerse yourself in God's nature

Take a walk downtown and get ice cream at the end

Write a letter to a long-distance friend

Careful! It would be easy to make your Sabbath over-busy with activities and then it becomes one more day to run, rather than stopping to create space for refueling.

The key is to discover what refuels your soul tank.

This will be different for each of us according to the unique way God created us. Most important is to walk with Him and let your refueling time flow out of your relationship with Him.

If you are considering recharging activities with friends or family, have a brainstorming session and write down your own ideas.

Enjoy the gift of rest God offers you!

PARK AT THE PARK

We are keeping our normal service times on Easter Sunday, April 24, and we hope you will invite guests who do not have a church home to join us as we begin a new sermon series called Transformed.

We are expecting a record crowd, and we need your help to open up parking spaces close to the building. Would you consider parking at Memorial Park and riding the trolley to the front door?

The trolley will run on Palm Sunday, April 17 & Easter, April 24 between 9:00am - 12:30pm. The large CrossWalk flags will be the pick up points at the park.

Current series

We humans have a nasty tendency to think that the universe is all about us. The truth is, God is center stage and we are merely bit parts in His universal drama. We do well to stop regularly & recognize how Big He is, and how small we are in comparison.

Join us as we spend 3 weeks practicing worship as described in Psalm 95 - authentic, spontaneous, all about HIM.
